Edward I’s castles, a coastal path round the island and Welsh spoken in every shop.
Anglesey, across the Menai Strait from Snowdonia, is ringed by a coastal path past sea cliffs, lighthouses and sandy bays, with Beaumaris and its never-finished castle on the strait. Welsh is the everyday language here and on the Llŷn peninsula to the south, where Criccieth has its own castle above the beach and the lanes lead to the pilgrims’ island of Bardsey.
