The birthplace of voodoo, the palaces of the Dahomey kings and a stilt village on a lagoon.
Southern Benin is where voodoo comes from, and Ouidah celebrates it every January; the town’s Route des Esclaves ends at the Door of No Return on the beach. The royal palaces of Abomey, capital of the kingdom of Dahomey, are a UNESCO site, Ganvié near Cotonou is a whole town on stilts in a lagoon, and Grand-Popo is a quiet beach village by the Togolese border.
