A compact capital on the Danube, and castles up the Váh valley to fairy-tale Bojnice.
Bratislava is a small capital with a big castle, a Baroque old town you can walk in an afternoon and the ruins of Devín where the Morava meets the Danube. North-east, the Váh valley is lined with castles: Trenčín looks down from its rock over the town square, and Bojnice, rebuilt in romantic style, is the most visited castle in the country, with a thermal spa below it.
