Monasteries painted on the outside, in colours nobody has managed to reproduce.
The painted monasteries of southern Bukovina were frescoed on their exterior walls in the 16th century so that illiterate villagers standing in the yard could read the whole Bible off them. Voroneț has a blue nobody has been able to reproduce, Sucevița the ladder of virtues climbing its north wall, Moldovița a siege of Constantinople. Eight are World Heritage, they are still working convents, and the hills between them are farmed with horses and hay ricks.
