Long sandy beaches and Ottoman-era seaside towns, with package resorts and quiet coves sitting side by side.
The Bulgarian coast is two things at once. Nesebar and Sozopol are old wooden-housed towns on rocky peninsulas, and the southern stretch towards Sinemorets still has empty sand and river mouths; between them sit Sunny Beach and Golden Sands, among the largest package resorts in Europe. Varna and Burgas are the entry points, seafood is cheap and good, and choosing a base carefully decides which of the two coasts you get.
