The Garden of Ireland: Glendalough’s monastic valley, Powerscourt and bog-road passes.
The Wicklow Mountains begin an hour south of Dublin: wild bogland passes, the glacial lakes of Glendalough with its sixth-century monastery and round tower, and the Wicklow Way winding through it all. Enniskerry is the estate village of the great gardens at Powerscourt, and Avoca, in the wooded vale to the south, has Ireland’s oldest working weaving mill.
