Inca stonework, the Sacred Valley and the citadel of Machu Picchu.
Cusco, the former Inca capital, blends colonial churches with massive Inca walls. From here the markets and ruins of the Sacred Valley lead to Machu Picchu — by train or on the Inca Trail. At about 3,400 m altitude, plan time to acclimatise; the dry season is May to September.
