A castle that held off the Ottomans, Bull’s Blood wine cellars and the sweet wine of Tokaj.
Eger is a Baroque town below the castle whose defenders stopped an Ottoman army in 1552, with a minaret, thermal baths and the wine cellars of the Valley of Beautiful Women, where Egri Bikavér is poured from the barrel. An hour and a half east, the village of Tokaj and its UNESCO-listed hills make the sweet Aszú that Louis XIV called the wine of kings.
