The Exumas are a hundred-mile chain of cays in water so clear and shallow that it glows turquoise from the plane. George Town on Great Exuma is the base, with Stocking Island’s beaches across the harbour; boats go up the chain to the land-and-sea park, the sandbars, the pigs that swim out at Big Major Cay and Staniel Cay’s Thunderball Grotto, where a James Bond film was shot.
