A Baltic peninsula of wild beach, thatched artists’ villages and cranes in autumn.

The Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula is part national park: the Darß forest runs down to a wild western beach of fallen trees, and tens of thousands of cranes rest on the lagoons each autumn. Ahrenshoop was an artists’ colony and still has its galleries and thatched houses; Stralsund, a Hanseatic town of brick Gothic, is close by.
