Endless beaches and dunes, kite and wind surfing, and a whitewashed old capital.
Fuerteventura is the Canaries’ beach island: dunes at Corralejo in the north, the lagoons of Sotavento and the endless white sands of Jandía in the south, all of it in the wind that makes it one of the world’s surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing centres. Inland it is bare and quiet, and Betancuria, the first capital, is a whitewashed village in a valley.
