A lively capital, the slave castles of Cape Coast and Elmina, and a canopy walkway in the rainforest.
Accra is one of West Africa’s most welcoming capitals, with markets, highlife and a busy food scene. Two hours west, the castles of Cape Coast and Elmina, from which enslaved people were shipped across the Atlantic, are among the most moving sites in Africa; nearby, Kakum national park has a canopy walkway high in the rainforest, and palm-lined beaches lie along the whole coast.
