High Tatras

Europe’s smallest high-alpine range, with granite peaks, glacial tarns and hut-to-hut trails at a fraction of Alpine prices.

The Tatras pack genuine high-mountain scenery into a range barely 25 km long: granite ridges above 2,600 m, glacial lakes such as Štrbské Pleso and Popradské pleso, and a network of marked trails and mountain huts that makes multi-day walking straightforward. Poprad is the gateway, with a funicular and a cog railway to do the climbing for you. Summer is for walking and winter for skiing at Tatranská Lomnica, and prices stay well below the Alps.
