The Petronas Towers, hawker food from three cuisines and the old Straits port of Malacca.
Kuala Lumpur is a city of Malay, Chinese and Indian neighbourhoods and the food to go with them, from Jalan Alor’s hawker stalls to banana-leaf curry in Brickfields. The Petronas Towers and the Batu Caves temple are the landmarks. Malacca, two hours south, was fought over by the Portuguese, Dutch and British: its UNESCO old town has Peranakan shophouses, temples and a riverside at night.
