The green island: a giant crater, volcano trails, laurel forest and the clearest skies in Europe.

La Palma is the steepest island on earth for its size and the greenest of the Canaries. The Caldera de Taburiente is a crater eight kilometres across with streams and pine forest inside, the Ruta de los Volcanes crosses the island’s spine past young cones, and the observatories on the rim profit from the clearest skies in Europe. Santa Cruz has wooden balconies and a quiet harbour.
