Manor houses, bog boardwalks, erratic boulders on the shore and fishing villages on the Baltic.
Lahemaa, an hour east of Tallinn, was the Soviet Union’s first national park: peninsulas of pine forest and raised bog with boardwalk trails, huge glacial boulders strewn along the shore, and captains’ villages such as Käsmu. The Baltic German manors of Palmse and Sagadi have been restored with their parks, and Rakvere nearby has a castle where the Middle Ages are acted out.
