Central Europe’s largest lake: warm water, volcanic wine hills, the Tihany peninsula and Hévíz.
Lake Balaton is shallow enough to warm up by June, and its south shore is one long family beach. The north shore is quieter and hillier: the Tihany peninsula with its abbey and lavender, the extinct volcanoes of Badacsony covered in vineyards, and Keszthely with the Festetics palace — next to Hévíz, a lake of warm thermal water.
