Tuscany’s hills without Tuscany’s prices, plus caves, a Renaissance court and the Conero cliffs.
Le Marche runs from the Sibillini mountains to the Adriatic in about ninety minutes, and everything in between is hill towns. Urbino was one of the sharpest courts of the Renaissance and still looks it, Ascoli Piceno is built of travertine around one of Italy’s finest squares, and the Frasassi caves hold a chamber that would swallow Milan cathedral. The Conero headland is the only cliff on the whole Adriatic coast, with white beaches reachable on foot.
