Lesotho lies entirely above a thousand metres, a mountain kingdom where people still ride sturdy Basotho ponies wrapped in their woollen blankets. Semonkong, the place of smoke, is named after the Maletsunyane falls that drop almost two hundred metres; Malealea is the classic base for pony treks to villages and rock paintings, and Roma, the university town, is the gateway from Maseru.
