A principality you can walk across in a day, with a princely wine cellar below and Alpine ridges above.
Liechtenstein is 25 km long and rises from the Rhine to 2,500 m, which means the whole country is a hillside. Vaduz has the castle above it — the Prince lives there, so you look from outside — a surprisingly good modern art museum, and the Hofkellerei’s vineyard in the middle of town. Malbun, up a switchback road, is the base for the Fürstensteig ridge path and for modest winter skiing. Most visitors stay two hours; two days is the better idea.
