Ore Mountains

📷 User:Rdc · CC0 · Wikimedia Commons

Silver-mining towns listed by UNESCO, wooden toy villages and trails along the Czech border.

The Ore Mountains made Saxony rich: silver was mined here for eight hundred years, and Annaberg-Buchholz and Freiberg still show it in their churches and show mines — the mining landscape is listed by UNESCO. Seiffen carves the nutcrackers and wooden angels sold all over Germany at Christmas; in summer the ridge is for hiking and mountain biking.
