A Mediterranean-feeling university town with a mosque on its square, and red wine from Villány.
Pécs is Hungary’s warmest city, a university town at the foot of the Mecsek hills where the Ottoman mosque became a church on the main square and the early Christian tombs below it are listed by UNESCO. The Zsolnay quarter shows off its glazed ceramics, and half an hour south the cellar village of Villány makes the country’s best red wines.
