The royal palace on the Mekong, the memorials of the Khmer Rouge and pepper farms by a river.

Phnom Penh stands where the Mekong meets the Tonlé Sap: the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, French colonial boulevards, a riverside of cafés, and the memorials of Tuol Sleng and the Killing Fields that no visitor should miss. Kampot, three hours south, is a sleepy river town of old shophouses near the pepper farms, the Bokor mountain and the crab market of Kep.
