The second-largest barrier reef in the world, just offshore, and some of the cheapest diving in the Caribbean.

Roatán lies on the Mesoamerican barrier reef, the second largest on earth, and the reef starts a few metres from the beach at West End — a laid-back village of dive shops, wooden houses and sunset bars. It is one of the cheapest places in the Caribbean to learn to dive; West Bay has the white-sand beach, and whale sharks pass off the neighbouring island of Utila in spring.
