A road of walled medieval towns — Rothenburg, Dinkelsbühl, Nördlingen — down to the Alps.
The Romantic Road links the best-kept medieval towns of southern Germany. Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Dinkelsbühl are complete with walls, towers and gates; Nördlingen is a round town inside a meteorite crater; further south Landsberg leads towards Füssen and the castles of Ludwig II. It is a road trip by nature, and a bike route too.
