Cuba’s music capital, the fort above the bay and cocoa and rivers in remote Baracoa.
Santiago de Cuba is the Caribbean side of Cuba: the birthplace of son and the revolution, with music in the Casa de la Trova every night and the Morro fortress guarding the bay. Over the mountains at the eastern tip, Baracoa was the first Spanish town on the island and stayed cut off for centuries — a place of cocoa farms, rivers for swimming and the flat-topped mountain El Yunque.
