Ruined abbeys, tweed mills, rolling hills and some of Britain’s best mountain biking.
The Borders between Edinburgh and England are rolling hills and river valleys with the ruins of four great abbeys — Melrose, Dryburgh, Jedburgh and Kelso. Walter Scott lived at Abbotsford, the mills still weave tweed and cashmere, and the forest trails of Glentress near Peebles are one of the best-known mountain-bike centres in Britain.
