A long wooded ridge with the Externsteine rocks, spa towns and the Hermann monument.
The Teutoburg Forest runs for a hundred kilometres as a narrow wooded ridge, with the Hermannsweg trail along its crest. The Externsteine sandstone pillars and the Hermann monument above Detmold draw the visitors; the spa towns of Bad Salzuflen and Horn-Bad Meinberg and the old centres of Detmold and Paderborn keep the pace slow.
