Swimming with humpback whales, sailing a sheltered archipelago and sea caves on the last Pacific kingdom.
Vavaʻu is a maze of forested islands around one of the Pacific’s safest harbours, and between July and October humpback whales come here to calve — Tonga is one of the few places where you may swim with them. The rest of the year it is a sailors’ paradise of sheltered anchorages, sea caves like Swallows’ Cave and village feasts; Neiafu is the small harbour town.
