Austria’s westernmost state has a character of its own: modern timber buildings stand beside old shingled farmhouses in the Bregenzerwald, the cheese dairies open their doors on the Käsestraße, and Bregenz stages opera on a floating stage on Lake Constance. Further in, the valleys around Bludenz and the high Arlberg are for hiking, climbing and mountain biking.
